The Design culture festival, Seoul Design Olympiad 2009 raised a fever all over the city of Seoul last October. The Seoul De- sign Olympiad 2009, which has been holding shows annually every fall since its first event in 2008, celebrates the design- ation of the city of Seoul as the world's design center. The objective is to promote a cultural festival as a means to en- hance the quality of citizens¡¯ lives in Seoul. The event, titled i-DESIGN, implying that every one of us can be a designer, held various conferences, exhibitions, contests, and festivals at Jamsil Sprots Complex, the Han River Park, and city centers throughout Seoul for 21 days. The Seoul International Design Conference, which ran from the 9th of October to the 11th, featured Designomoics, demonst- rating that design is the key in solving the economic downturn. The event was participated in by Gianfranco Zaccai (the chairm an of Italian Design Continuum), Paul Kelley from UK, Kenya Hara from Japan, and other prominent designers and profession- als working in the field of design all collaborating to discover new values of design. The design exhibition, which turned Jamsil Sports Complex into a market place, offered a dynamic place where emerging designers from all over the world could present and sell their works, allowing it to become a meeting place of various designs. The Seoul Design Contest titled In- terflow & Consilience featured works by designers selected by the theme of bio-friendliness. The event of was filled with other events such as performance, play, and parades pertain- ing to the theme, i-Design, inducing participation from the audience in various parts of the city.
