 Yangachi¡¯s third solo exhibition, ¡°Middle Corea : Yangachi Episode I,¡±
is about a fake nation called Middle Corea and the nation¡¯s
representative industry, the Gims Factory. Yangachi has addressed
such issues as web art and the social constructive system in his
previous solo exhibitions ¡°Yangachi Union¡± (2002) and ¡°Electronic
Government.¡± (2003) This time his exhibition deals with the idea of
a nation and the nation¡¯s related governmental systems.

He constructed a fake state called Middle Corea and created the
Gims Factory as the symbolic industry for the country. The Gim family
has produced Kamikaze bikes each carrying a powerful missile for over
50 years. They offer Kamikaze bikes to nationally registered riders with
a message to destroy all systems related to the riders.The Kamikaze riders,
who aim to destroy systems all around the world, accumulate all kinds of
abilities from their ordinary life that can be used during special Kamikaze
riding days. After they destroy these systems with their Kamikaze bikes,
a new day starts.

In the exhibit hall, a picture book showing the Gim family¡¯s story and their
products is on display. The Gim family members include a grandfather
from the Chinese army, a father from the Japanese Army, the main
character who is from the South Korean army, and his brother from the
North Korean army. Their stories explain the birth of Middle Corea and their
concepts of nationhood, people, and nationality. Middle Corea, a networking
nation without actual territory, is visualized by images of South and North
Korean through a multi-functional satellite. Throughout the exhibit, Yangachi
talks about this accumulating system, which is directly controlled by old
symbols of legitimacy such as the nation, people, and nationality. He also
argues that this accumulation can still be related to an emblem of another system.
